ABOUT BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Bosnia and Herzegovina is situated in the central region of the Balkan Peninsula. Its northern, western, and southwestern borders are shared with the Republic of Croatia, while the eastern and southern boundaries are adjacent to the Republic of Serbia. The country has a small coastline along the Adriatic Sea, approximately 21 kilometres in length, located near the town of Neum.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a composite state, established in accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH. It is divided into two main entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which occupies 51% of the territory, and the Republika Srpska, covering the remaining 49%. The Federation is further subdivided into ten cantons, which are composed of various municipalities. Republika Srpska is organized into regions and municipalities.

The Brčko District, which has been the subject of disputes and international arbitration, is recognized as a separate administrative unit. Consequently, Bosnia and Herzegovina is comprised of two entities along with the Brčko District.
The highest legislative body in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Parliamentary Assembly, which consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples.

The House of Representatives is made up of 42 members, with two-thirds elected from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one-third from the Republika Srpska. The House of Peoples includes 15 delegates, with two-thirds originating from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (comprising five Croats and five Bosniacs) and one-third from the Republika Srpska (consisting of five Serbs).
